- Welcome!
- ========
-
- Welcome to TurboText, the most advanced text editor available for the Amiga
- line of computers. TurboText has been designed from the ground up to provide
- the necessary tools to easily perform a varied range of sophisticated text
- editing tasks.
-
- Whether TurboText is used for educational, recreational, or professional
- text editing, it offers Amiga users the highest level of performance and
- ease of use available.
-
- TurboText can be used out of the box and offers an impressive array of
- capabilities. The more advanced users can also customize the editing
- environment to a high degree. Through ARexx, additional capabilities can be
- added by using the vast collection of commands available through TurboText's
- ARexx interface.
-
- TurboText works perfectly well under AmigaDOS 2.0 through AmigaDOS 3.1.
- We have adhered closely to the new user-interface standards promoted by
- Commodore, which enhances usability and reduces the time it takes to learn how
- to operate the software.
-
- This version of TurboText is a special demonstration version that does not
- allow you to save and print documents. Aside from these two limitations, the
- program is fully functional. Included with the main program are several ARexx
- scripts and special definition files.

- TurboText by double-clicking on the TurboText icon inside of the drawer that
- was created.

- New In Version 2.0
- ==================
-
- TurboText 2.0 features a large number of enhancements over previous versions.
- Here are some of the major additions:
-
- · Performance has been greatly enhanced throughout the program.
-
- · Now includes full on-line documentation.
-
- · TurboText now uses the ASL file and screen mode requesters.
-
- · Each TurboText window can now be opened on separate public screens.
-
- · Each TurboText window can now have its own menu strip, its own font,
- its own text color, etc.
-
- · Lines are no longer limited to 32768 characters, and can be as long as
- system memory allows.
-
- · TurboText now features an ARexx macro cache, which enhances the performance
- of ARexx macros considerably.
-
- · There are now many more optional confirmation requesters that prevent
- dangerous errors from being done.
-
- · The text gadgets in the Find and Find & Change now maintain a list of
- the last several text strings used. When one of these text gadgets is
- active, the [CursorUp] and [CursorDown] keys may be used to cycle through
- the history of text strings.
-
- · It is now possible to operate TurboText without having a window opened.
- This is very useful to execute ARexx macros in the background.
-
- · TurboText can now automatically detect binary files when it loads a new
- document, and adjust its preferences options in order to handle the file
- correctly.
-
- · There is now a Project/Insert... menu command which lets you insert a
- file from disk at the current cursor position.
-
- · When running with AmigaDOS release 3 or greater, the system's busy pointer
- is used instead of a custom one. This makes TurboText pick up changes made
- to the busy pointer in Pointer preferences.
-
- · TurboText uses new look menus when possible. This makes the menus look
- nicer.
-
- · A large number of ARexx commands were added or expanded to make the
- ARexx interface more powerful.
